New features at Sarawak Cultural Village to attract more visitors

THE Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) will introduce several new attractions this year to enhance its visitor experience.

General manager Jane Lian Labang said the new features include a Rainforest World Music Gallery, which displays musical instruments from around the world, and an Arts Learning Centre where visitors can learn traditional dances, music and crafts.

“We are now selling dance and music packages for the centre,” she told StarMetro yesterday. She also said SCV would open a Tea House after February where visitors can have a cup of local tea as well as different teas from around the world.

In addition, she said SCV planned to introduce a nature walk around the foot of Mount Santubong in March.

“We will provide information on the plants and animals found in the area, such as Tongkat Ali and pitcher plants in a 10min walk for nature lovers,” she said.

Other additions include a new Bidayuh longhouse and “panggah” (meeting hall), which will provide more accommodation for guests in the village stay programme.

Jane said the new features would help SCV to draw more visitors and maintain its position as one of the top tourist attractions in the state.

She said 118,514 visitors came to SCV last year, a slight decrease of 0.8% compared to 119,471 in 2009.
