Taste of rajahs, riches and rainforests for cruise passengers iun Sarawak

KUCHING: The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) welcomed yet another cruise ship to the state’s shores yesterday.

It was the second arrival within a week by the MV Orion II (Orion Expedition Cruises Australia) after the first on August 27.

The cruise ship arrived at Sim Kheng Hong Port in Kuching at 6.30am as part of its 10-night “Borneo — Rajahs, Riches and Rainforests” cruise from Kota Kinabalu, Labuan, Pulau Tiga, Similajau National Park, Kuching, Tanjung Datu, Bako National Park and Singapore.

Upon arrival, the passengers were greeted with a traditional welcome by a 10-member cultural troupe organised and sponsored by the Sarawak Tourism Board. They were presented with traditional bead garlands.

The MV Orion II is an expedition cruise ship with capacity of 100 passengers (excluding crew).

Due to its smallness, it can berth close to shore without requiring a proper terminal or jetty and transport its guests and expedition leaders with its zodiac boats.
