Sarawak Museum targets 1.5 mln visitors this year

KUCHING: The Sarawak Museum Department is targetting 1.5 million visitors this year.

Its director Ipoi Datan said this was the new target after the department hit its 1.25 million visitors last year, which is the highest achieved amongst museums in the country.

It was also the third consecutive year the department has hit over 1 million visitors from the years 2009 to 2011.

“The target hit is the outcome from the activity and co-operation between the department and other museums from Kalimantan, Indonesia, Brunei and Sabah. Last year, the museum has held a Pesona Manik SeBorneo exhibition which will also be held in Bandar Baru, South Kalimantan in September this year,” said Ipoi at the department’s retirement and excellence award dinner on Friday.

He added that competitive environment and ever changing consumer needs requires the department to focus on networking between other museum institutions, including across the border.

Last year, the department has held many activities especially temporary exhibition with cultural, historical or development themes which are held not only in Kuching but in other divisions as well.
