Malaysia Day Cultural Festival in Kudat on Sept 9


Kota Kinabalu: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak is expected to officiate at the opening of the Malaysia Day Cultural Festival 2012 cum "Jom Masuk U" Carnival in Kudat on Sept 9.

KDM Malaysia President, Datuk Peter Anthony, said there would be traditional sports, cultural performances and cultural exhibitions by Sabah ethnic groups during the one-day event at Kudat Sports Complex.

The inaugural event, he said, is held in conjunction with the celebration of Malaysia Day.

He said KDM Malaysia would also strive to attract about 50,000 people, especially youths and students of institutes of higher learning from throughout Sabah, to ensure the event's success.

"From 6am until 2pm on that day, we will have colouring contest for children below the age of 12, traditional sports, agri and livestock competition and exhibition by the Department of Veterinary Services and Animal Industry," he said.

The traditional sports, he said, will feature the tug-of-war and also Orang Kuat Malaysia competition.

In the KDM Idol event, he said, the organiser is offering a total prize of RM9,000, including recording opportunity with Ampal Productions.

Anthony said two representatives would be selected for the Idol final in Kudat on Sept 8-9.

Selection for the contestants, he said, would begin in Penampang at Buhavan Square next week, followed by other districts.

"Then there would be the main event, the Sumandak Tolumis Kinabalu, a beauty contest," he said.

The winner, he said, stands to win RM10,000, while first runner-up, RM7,000 and second runner-up, RM5,000.

"With regards to the lucky draw on Sept 9, the grand prize is a brand new car," he said.
