Borneo's next top models: Jungle animals pose and preen for the camera

  • Many of the magnificent exotic creatures are endangered
  • Researchers set up a camera in the forest and photographed 27 species
  • Their habits and movements can now be more easily tracked
The search is on for Borneo's next top model - and it's a jungle out there.

Researchers set up a camera in the middle of the forest to capture exotic animals in their natural environment.

The results are a collection of funny and fascinating photos of the rare creatures.

Some pose proudly, while others gaze down the lens with an intensity to rival that of the most seasoned supermodel.

One macaque is seen scratching its head as it stares in confusion at the foreign object, while his friend flashes a cheesy grin.

An elephant and a pair of proboscis monkeys eye the camera suspiciously, but one clouded leopard with huge dark eyes has a soulful look to melt the hardest heart.

Scientists at the Danau Girang Field Centre in Sabah spent 18 months capturing images of 27 species of exotic mammal living in the Malaysian forest.
