Sarawak tourism chief upbeat on first Asia Music Festival

MIRI: The head of Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) is upbeat on the inaugural Asia Music Festival that opened on Friday night to an audience of 1,808 at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, calling it a good sign for the event to continue another year.

“This is the tally from wrist tags issued to the audience on the first night of the festival.

We are setting a target of a 4,000-strong audience for both nights. As it is a weekend, we believe the numbers could swell to the target,” said STB CEO Dato Rashid Khan on Saturday.

Although most of performers are not fully known in the local music scene, their prowess was not lost on the numbers.

Local singing talent Starlets Band from Miri was given the honour of the opening act for the first night.

Taking the stage after the all-girl band was Iban band ‘Hevance’ followed by Bob Yusof aka ‘Bob’. Bob from Limbang was one of the finalists in popular talent show Akademi Fantasia (AF).

The show continued with performances from Soesah Tideor (Indonesia), Tritha (India), Bembol Rockers (Philippines) and V. Star Band featuring Kamal Mussalam (Korea).
