Borneo Cultural Festival organisers have working folks in mind

SIBU: The 12th Borneo Cultural Festival (BCF) from July 30 to Aug 8 has been scheduled to end on a Saturday for the sake of working people so that they do not have to wake up early the following day.

To be held at Sibu Town Square, BCF is a major event of Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

SMC deputy chairman Dato Andrew Wong told a press conference yesterday that the decision to end the BCF on a Saturday was taken after considering feedback from the people. This year’s BCF, which goes by the same theme as last year’s which is `Beauty in Ethnic Diversity’, will begin with a parade at 6.30pm at Chuang Corridor on July 30.

Wong, who is the event organising chairman, said various activities had been drawn up for the four stages; namely the Chinese stage, Malay/Melanau stage, Youth Pavilion and Dayak stage.

The main stage will only be used on the final three nights with activities to include performances by 15 local troupes.

There will be local ethnic dance, modern children dance, zumba fitness dance, modern dance, mixture of Sarawak ethnic dances, Iban pop music and songs, belly dance, Chinese martial arts, group singing and so forth.
