Borneo Cultural Festival closes on a high note

SIBU: The 14th Borneo Cultural Festival, which managed to wow about 250,000 people during its 10-day run, came to a close on Saturday night.

Some 30,000 people were at the finale, which ended with a firework display.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King said nightly attendance during the festival, which is organised annually by SMC, was over 20,000.

“This Sibu affair has become a signature event … a truly Borneo event. Next year, we shall focus more on attracting tourists to the festival, in line with ‘Visit Sibu Year 2017’.

Besides stage shows, the festival — held at Sibu Town Square Phase 1 and 2 from July 21-30 — also boasted a garden fair, a photograph exhibition to promote tourism, singing contests, beauty contests, trade shows and a fun fair, among others.
